A30
[edit]Does anyone know why, very strangely, the A30 autobahn heads straight into the town rather than going around it to meet up with the A2? This question bugs me every time I (and all the trucks) have to go that way. The highways around Bad Oeynhausen seem to be a pretty unique solution for Germany. Surely it's not a lack of money for building a bypass, but then what is the reason? Do the inhabitants want all the trucks? Also, then there's that strange little 3km long autobahn just to the east of the town that heads for 1km in the direction of Vlotho – what is going on with that? Is it unfinished? Did the planners change their minds? Anyway, I'm hoping that maybe someone who lives in town might be able to shed light on the issue. Deuar 15:16, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
No one wants all the trucks and cars in the middle of the city. And of course, no one wants all that traffic in front of his/her house or flat.
A bypass A30 - A2 was in discussion and planning for about 30 years. For various reasons, the people living near the bypass route in the north of the town did not want the bypass and they still fight against it with various arguments (landscape, water for well springs, ...). Nevertheless, the bypass was accepted by politicians and lawyers 2006/2007, finally.
- Thanks. Now I see. I wish all the inhabbitants of town a rapid construction! Deuar 22:23, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- I do not share your opinion. I live in Bad Oeynhausen and am strongly opposing the bypass.
- Of course, there would be less traffic. But some trucks would still use the old street to avoid the autobahn , which is not for free in germany any more (at least for trucks), as much as posible.
- PLUS (and this is more important to me): The bypass would cut into the beautiful landscape between B.O. City and the Wiehengebirge and spoil and destroy nature forever. That I find most dangerous for a spa town and the wonderful region in general, that is so much depending on a beautiful landscape.
- PLUS: there are alternatives (tunnel; a bypass to the south) that would be less harmful, yet more expensive of course.
- But all officials ignore the alternatives and deem seem impossible

How to improve the article
[edit]Hi folks. I'd like to help in improving this article. Though I study elsewhere, I still spend a lot of time in Bad Oeynhausen, where I was also born and spent the first 19 years of my life. Because I am new to wikipedia I do not not the proper procedure to improve an article. Would it be OK to start by translating the article in the german wikipedia? It's far from perfect, but would be a definite improvement. I would write the translation in this discussion, so that others, who speak English as a first language, can improve my translation. Would this (translating an article of a different language) be according to Wikipedia rules? It would definitely help to get more information, even if we couldn't copy it 1 to 1. --Yamok 16:16, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Translating things from the German article is a great idea, go for it! A full-scale replace of the present article with a translation is usually not done, but rather the translated information is worked into the existing english text. Deuar 13:05, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Photos
[edit]I could also be of help in this respect, because I still spend quite some time in Bad Oeynhausen. But one (as I am new to wikipedia perhaps a stupid) question: Couldn't we just use photos of the german wiki article. If not: I could take some pics. Just say what I should photograph. --Yamok 07:31, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- The photos from the .de wikipedia will improve the article greatly. Bring them in! Deuar 13:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Widukind spring in Bergkirchen never ran dry
[edit]There are (at least) three Widukind-springs: One in Bergkirchen (Wiehengebirge mountains, flank to the south), the other one in Lübbecke (Wiehengebirge mountains, flank to the north). Both still give water. The third Widukind-spring had been located somewhat east, just on top of the Wiehengebirge mountains (terrain of the former "Widukind's castle"). This spring ran dry in 1938 due to ore mining activities. If you want to look for more information, see Evangelische Kirche Bergkirchen (Bad Oeynhausen), Wittekindsquelle and Wittekindsburg_(Nordrhein-Westfalen) (all these three sources in german wikipedia only. --84.142.144.37 (talk) 10:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Karl Otto Koch
[edit]Quote from the text about Bad Oeynhausen: Under Nazi Germany, Bad Oeynhausen hosted a synod of the Confessing Church, as well as the home congregation to Karl Otto Koch, a leading member.
There is a link to Karl Otto Koch.
I think this is a huge mistake! When you klick the link, it leads you to Karl Otto Koch, SS-Commander of KZ Buchenwald.
This Karl Otto Koch has nothing to do with Bad Oeynhausen!!! And finally in the meaning of this sentence it makes no sense relating it with Karl Koch.
The Karl Koch (not Karl Otto Koch), who is meant is Jakob Emil Karl Koch (* 6. Oktober 1876 in Witten/Ruhr; † 28. Oktober 1951 in Bielefeld). He fought against the nationalsocialism ideology!!!
I changed the name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arwenix (talk • contribs) 19:56, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
